Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Applicant Tracking Systems

Updated: Apr 16

AI-powered applicant tracking systems (ATS) often screen resumes before any human. Tailoring your resume to specific keywords is crucial.

By understanding the keywords that recruiters and ATS systems are looking for, you can significantly increase your chances of landing your next role.

This is a link to an article that I posted to LinkedIn:

Can you really differentiate your resume with Keywords? An AI exercise.

I used AI to review 10 recent job descriptions, pulled from LinkedIn, based on a standard job title of "Senior Project Manager". The job descriptions were copied, extraneous details like benefits were removed, and the text was pasted into ChatGPT to review.

Here is the resulting AI generated keyword table.

AI Generated table of top 20 keywords based on a review of 12 job descriptions for a project manager.
AI Prompt: Identify the most frequent terms in these JDs and return the results in a numbered table.

Bottom Line:

The AI summary is great, but the opportunity to fine tune a resume based on these keywords is limited. Using these keywords to drive Job Alerts is equally problematic.

What is your best strategy?
